Humble Beginnings

It all began when Founder and Director Darren Molloy opened the parent company Motordrives Australia Pty Ltd in 2008. It has since grown to become a leading supplier in Australia for power transmission products including Industrial Electric Motors and Worm Gearmotors to the Australian market. With over 30+ years of experience with industrial machine design and engineering, our knowledge and qualifications have been combined to produce the very best Australian drum winches on the market today. How TUFF WINCH Began

After noticing a need to deliver reliable Australian made drum anchor winches to the boating/fishing community led by a strong expertise in electrical motors and worm drives, the TUFF WINCH was born. Since our beginning in 2012 we have now manufactured and sold over 10,000 units for the Australian and overseas markets. We are proudly all Australian owned and Made using all Australian labour and materials.

True oversized Italian Gearbox Transmissions that are anodised to withstand harsh salt water conditions and also contain all stainless steel hubs and fixtures.

Oversized Italian 4 brush dc electric motor that is epoxy coated, 316 stainless steel shafts, frame and spool, with custom torque variations available for any application. Our electric motors are rated at IP66 and are compliant with the International Protection Regulation IEC/EN 60529. No need for aluminum sleeves for unnecessary "protection" as that causes risk of water ingress issues overtime.

  • Production Process

    Production starts in our modern 1000+ s/m facilities in both Yatala, Queensland and Sunshine West, Melbourne. Every winch is welded, machined and constructed by hand to ensure the build integrity and quality is second to none. Using our in-house laser and CNC machine centre we never cut corners, you cannot look past the quality and construction of our drum anchor winches.

  • 316 Stainless Steel

    Every TUFF WINCH product is constructed with high grade 316 Stainless Steel made here in Australia, with full assembly and welding process conducted in-house. Our winches feature 6mm thick drums that are machined beveled (TUFF Exclusive), and our solid 25mm stainless steel spool shafts are meticulously joined to our drums with welds for optimised strength and integrity of the unit.

Only The Highest Quality Drum Winch Components

We use 316 Stainless steel for our frames, shafts and drums (laser cut in Queensland), and oversized and powerful IP66 rated European motors and gearboxes sourced from Italy that will withstand any weather condition such as the harsh salt water you face when you're out in the Australian waters. Our Drums feature stainless steel ball bearings with 25mm bores and 42mm for the outside diameter, as well as oversized stainless and machined bearing covers T6061 -T6.

Solid spool shafts are minimum 25mm and the assembly spins on 2 triple sealed maintenance free bearings. TUFF WINCH is the only manufacturer to machine bevel the drums keeping your fingers safe from cuts and preserving rope longevity. The drive components including the motor and gearbox can be adjusted to 16 different positions, suitable for any application.

Every TUFF WINCH uses an Oversized Italian IP66 Motor compliant with the International Protection Regulation IEC/EN 60529. Our robust, oversized DC motor delivers exceptional power efficiency and an extended lifespan. We don’t use shiny aluminum sleeves that put your motor at risk of water ingress or corrosion over time, they are designed to get wet backed by real certification and work effortlessly for years to come. These DC motors are equipped with a front shield for excellent interior protection through radial seal rings, O-ring and closed fastening holes. They are built to get wet!

Our oversized and anodised worm drive gearboxes come from one of the largest Italian specialised manufacturers and are prefilled with the highest grade fully synthetic oil, so you never have to worry about maintenance. They are also fully epoxy-coated providing protection from salt, water and other weather conditions for any marine application. We also have multiple ratio options available for customised applications where higher torque may be required.
